Creating or Modifying an Environment Settings Record
Every learner login is assigned an Environment Settings Record which determines account properties such as answer access and quiz and exam passwords. GDS emulator settings such as country, currency, 12/24 hour clock time, etc. are also controlled in the Environment Settings Record. Usually one Environment Settings Record is assigned to all student accounts and another one to all instructor accounts. Follow the directions here to create or modify a settings record.
  1. Use the Login button at the top of any VIASINC webpage to log into the VIASINC environment with your Master/Admin account number and password.
  2. Click the "Launch Admin" button at the top of the webpage to launch the System Administration utility.
  3. Your Account Record will display. Open the Manage menu by clicking on the "+" symbol next to "Manage" in the black box at the top of the screen. Choose the "Environment Settings" option from the drop-down menu.
  4. A list of your current Environment Settings Records will be shown, or you will see the word "Add" in the Operations column. Click on any of the "Add" links to create a new record. To modify a record, click the "Edit" link for that record.

      • Enable strict exercises This property is not in use at this time. When functional, it will not allow students to move forward in an exercise module until the current problem is complete.
      • Teacher User This property will allow the user to display answers, view other user's PNRs, and enter a quiz or exam without entering a password. It will also allow the user to advance through lessons without answering questions, though this can sometimes cause issues in the GDS emulator and should be used with caution. You should assign this property only to an Environment Settings Record used for the instructor's login account.
      • Retain student-created PNRs after exit Highlight this property to save student built PNRs indefinately. When not used, an ended PNR will be saved only for the current training session. Students may not view PNRs built by another user. Instructors may view student-built PNRs if they have the "Teacher user" status turned on in their Environment Settings Record.
      • Retain changes to VIASINC PNRs after exit Only select this option if you want stock ("canned") PNRs to retain changes made by students indefinately. Only the student who modified the PNR will see the changes. It is not advised to use this option.
